It is said that Zeus was so enamoured by the handsome Ganymede that he either summoned his pet eagle, Aquila or turned himself into an eagle to transport the youth to Mount Olympus. Ganymede was granted eternal youth and immortality and the office of cupbearer to the gods. Zeus' wife Hera regarded Ganymede as a rival for her husband's affection and so Zeus later put Ganymede in the sky as the constellation Aquarius.
